UNITED STATES CONGRESSMAN ELIOT ENGEL ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR WEINER FOR MAYOR

CALLS WEINER "A FIGHTER WHO UNDERSTANDS THE BRONX"
WEINER BRONX SUPPORT GROWS

New York City - Today, Congressman Eliot Engel (D-Bronx) announced his support for Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-Queens & Brooklyn) campaign for Mayor.  
 
It was another sign that Weiner's strength in the Bronx is growing.

Weiner has already been endorsed by State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) and the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club, the largest Democratic Club in the Bronx.
 
"Anthony Weiner is a fighter for the middle class and for working New Yorkers," said Rep. Engel. "I have known and admired his hard work since he first came to Congress. He understands the Bronx and its needs, and this means a lot to me and to my constituents."
 
"As a nine-term congressman, Eliot Engel commands respect for his hard work and diligence," said Rep. Weiner. "He serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the most important in the House, as well as the Internationals Relations Committee. He has worked hard for health care for the elderly and to protect Social Security. And there is no firmer friend of Israel in Congress."
 
Congressman Engel announced his support for Weiner on the steps of City Hall, in Manhattan.
