New York City - Today, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) kicked off his petition drive to get on the ballot in the mayoral race with gatherers out in force in all five boroughs. Weiner began the day by greeting straphangers at the 71st Avenue subway stop in Forest Hills, Queens,--his neighborhood subway station.

Every candidate who wants to run for mayor must first gather 7,500 signatures from registered voters in New York City. That’s the only way they can get on the ballot.

Starting today, hundreds of Weiner supporters will fan out across all 5 boroughs to gather signatures.

"My campaign is going to be waged at the grassroots, by talking to real New Yorkers about their cares and concerns," said Rep. Weiner.
