New York City – This morning the MTA awarded the Hudson Rail Yards development bid to the Jets. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn), a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement:
“This process has not lived up to what the people of New York deserve.
“It’s been rife with insider deals, backdoor connections to City Hall, and intimidation of potential bidders.
“We needed more time, more information, and more oversight before any decision, to ensure the people of New York got the best deal.
“A decision we have to live with for the next 100 years should not have been rushed through in less than 10 days.”
Weiner spoke at the MTA Board meeting this morning, calling on the MTA to delay making a decision until at least April 30, to allow for a more thorough vetting of the bids.
He was the first to propose that the stadium be built in Queens.
