IF SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE CLASSROOM IS “BUSINESS AS USUAL”…
________
…FIRE THE CEO
In today’s New York Post, Mayor Bloomberg says that recent allegations of sexual abuse of students by teachers in New York City schools is “business as usual” and “not a huge scandal.” Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:
“If this is ‘business as usual’ then we should fire the CEO.
“When the City nets less than its fair share from Albany and Washington because of the Mayor’s ‘you get more with honey than with vinegar’ approach its frustrating.
“But when he brings his passive approach to protecting our kids from sexual abuse its mind boggling.
“The one place parents shouldn’t have to worry about the safety of their kids is in the care of a teacher, but somehow ‘Silent Mike’ doesn’t get it.”
Anthony Weiner has proposed a back to basics approach to our schools, including zero tolerance for teachers who sexually abuse their students.
Weiner has called for swift due process to resolve questions of teacher abuse and, where appropriate, quickly remove problem teachers from the classroom. Weiner’s plan would restore authority to principals to remove disruptive students and problem teachers without fighting through time consuming bureaucratic red tape.
