WEINER: GROUND ZERO DEVELOPMENT PROCESS “DEEPLY FLAWED”

New York City – Today, the Governor’s office announced that the Freedom Tower will have to be redesigned due to the NYPD’s security concerns. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:

“The Governor did the right thing. Safety and security must be job one for New York’s public officials.

“But while the architects go back to their drafting boards, it’s time for public officials to take a hard look at the ground zero development process.

“Any redevelopment that excludes Ray Kelly’s voice for twelve months is deeply flawed. Worse still would be if the Mayor couldn’t hear him because of his single minded focus on the West Side stadium.

“Troubling questions need answers, not the least of which should be ‘how did we get into this mess?’”
