EXPERTS IN THE CAMPAIGN “GROUND GAME”

New York City – Today, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) announced two major additions to his campaign team, both of whom are experts in the “ground game” needed to win hard fought elections in New York City.

Michael Whouley has been hired as a consultant to craft the campaign’s field strategy, targeting, and outreach.

Mark Benoit has been hired as Campaign Manager.

“Anthony Weiner is talking about new solutions to make our schools better, improve health care, and create jobs, and the message is resonating,” said Whouley. “We have to keep that momentum going, and I'm looking forward to working with his strong campaign team to let voters know how Anthony Weiner isfighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it.”

“Anthony Weiner is a fighter with proven results for New York City and the middle class,” said Benoit. “And he’s the Democrat’s best chance to beat Mike Bloomberg in the fall. I’m thrilled to be joining the campaign that already has the most momentum in the race.”

Michael Whouley

Michael Whouley is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost campaign strategists, with more than twenty years of experience in local, state, and national campaigns.

In 1992, he served as the National Field Director for the victorious Clinton/Gore presidential campaign. Four years later, he was Vice President Gore’s National Campaign Manager.

He served first as an advisor to Vice President Gore during the 2000 presidential campaign, then as Chief Political Strategist for the Democratic National Committee.

He was a senior advisor to John Kerry’s presidential campaign during the Iowa caucuses, then served as the General Election Director at the DNC.

Mark Benoit

Mark Benoit has extensive experience running successful grassroots campaigns in New York City.

In 2001, he was campaign manager for Betsy Gotbaum’s successful campaign for New York City Public Advocate. He ran Mark Green’s re-election campaign for Public Advocate in 1997, Catherine Abate’s state senate race in 1994, and deputy managed Peter Vallone’s run for Governor in 1998. In addition, he worked on both of David Dinkins' mayoral campaigns and served as his Director of Scheduling.

In 2004, he was the New York state director for Wesley Clark’s presidential campaign.

“Michael Whouley is unparalleled as a strategic thinker about outreach and how to win campaigns in the field,” said Rep. Weiner. “No one understands the grassroots in New York City better than Mark Benoit, he’s a proven winner. Together they bring an unmatched wealth of knowledge and experience to an already strong campaign team. Both are experts in the ground game you need to win a hard fought election, and we are extremely fortunate to have them.”
