WEINER:

WITH THE OLYMPICS IN THE BALANCE, BUILD IT IN QUEENS

New York City – Today, the Public Authorities Control Board delayed a vote on the West Side stadium until Monday. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:

“It looks like the mayor punted to buy more time.

“But no amount of arm twisting, steam rolling or just plain time will change the fundamental problem with the West Side stadium—it’s a bad idea.

“With the Olympics bid in the balance, the time for tweaking and wheedling is over.

“If you are someone who cares about good government, build it in Queens.

“If you are someone who believes in openness and transparency in government, build it in Queens.

“If you want to get the Olympics, build it in Queens.

“And if you care about saving taxpayer dollars, build it in Queens.”

Weiner first announced his opposition to the West Side stadium deal last April, and has released two reports questioning the wisdom of the West Side stadium deal. He proposes adopting the planned expansion of the Jacob Javits Convention Center to accommodate world class conventions, but return the Jets to their rightful home by exploring the siting of the new stadium in Willets Point, Queens.
