LAST HOPE FOR THE OLYMPICS RESTS IN QUEENS

New York City – Today, Speaker of the Assembly Sheldon Silver announced that he would vote no on the West Side stadium. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:

“In the end, the West Side stadium failed because it was just a bad idea.

“And it’s been the Mayor’s single minded obsession on the West Side stadium that has put the Olympics in jeopardy.

“Last April I called for the stadium to be built in Queens. Had we followed that advice, our Olympics bid wouldn’t be in the dire straights it’s in today.

“A Weiner administration would build a stadium in New York City—in Queens. The other candidates for Mayor should make the same pledge.”

Weiner was the first to advocate building the stadium in Willets Point, Queens. He first did so in April of last year.
