MAYOR SHOULD DRIVE A HARDER STADIUM BARGAIN

BRING THE JETS HOME TO QUEENS AND WIN BID
New York City -- Today, on his radio show, the Mayor said he had approached the Jets three times this week about building a stadium in Queens and that they won’t do it. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:
“I’m glad the Mayor has finally agreed to put Willets Point on the table.
“But the City’s Olympic bid shouldn’t hinge on the self-interest of a sports franchise.
“It’s time to drive a harder bargain. We can bring the Jets back home and win the Olympics if we build the stadium in Queens.
“It will take real leadership and fast action to do it.
“New Yorkers never disappointed America. In that the Mayor was wrong.
“But now he will disappoint New York, and America, if he doesn't move quickly to do the right thing.
“It’s hard not to think that if the Mayor had spent as much time putting pressure on the Jets as he did on Sheldon Silver the Jets would be in Queens by now.”
