WEINER: WILLETS POINT THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR NEW YORK CITY

New York City - Tonight, Mayor Bloomberg announced that a new Olympic stadium will be built in Willets Point, Queens. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn), who was the first to propose building a stadium at Willets Point over a year ago, released the following statement:

"The debate over the West Side stadium was never about politics, it was about different visions for what was best for the City.

"It was never about some development or no development. It was about building in the right place or in the wrong place for New York.

"The West Side was the wrong place. Willets Point is exactly right.

"This is the right choice for New York City, and we've been fighting for it for a long time.

"The Olympics will be good for the City and is worth fighting for. This move gives us a fighting chance. I will stand with this Mayor to make it happen."

Fourteen months ago, in April of 2004, Rep. Weiner was the first to suggest building in Willets Point, Queens.
