LEADERSHIP DEMANDS BRINGING CITY TOGETHER:
CURRENT MESS AT GROUND ZERO
IS A PRODUCT OF LACK OF LEADERSHIP
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement:
“Nothing could be clearer than that the Mayor and Governor have abdicated leadership.
“The Freedom Tower is delayed because security issues were ignored for too long.
“Redevelopment is slow because our Mayor obsessed over a West Side stadium.
“And now Ground Zero is sinking into controversy because the Mayor and Governor ignored what is going on there.
“The solution is common sense and leadership.
“It is just common sense that artwork that is offensive to 9/11 victims should not be housed at Ground Zero.
“We need leadership now to reach out to families of 9-11 victims so they can have a fair say in helping determine what memorials and centers go on this hallowed ground.
“The Drawing Center has a right to display these materials, but that doesn't mean we have to hand them a broad and solemn stage on which to do it.”
