MAYOR LETTING BUSH, ROVE

USE NEW YORK FOR POLITICAL PLATFORM

New York City - Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) released the following statement about controversial remarks made by Karl Rove and the Mayor's response:

"The most important point is that the war on terror is about tracking down and eliminating terrorists before they can hit the United States.

“We have to win the war on terror for the survival of our country, and Democrats must continue to be clear on that point.

“Karl Rove played a political stunt this week in New York City - just as Bush did at the convention here. No one should be playing politics with national security - instead everyone's focus should be on getting the terrorists.

"Rove should not use 9/11 to drive a narrow political agenda. As this City's elected leader, Mayor Bloomberg is wrong to let him get away with it.

"We have a Republican Mayor who is letting the White House turn New York City into a platform for partisan Republican attacks. It happened during the Republican National Convention and it happened this week. In both cases, Mayor Mike should have stood up for New York City, but he didn't.

“That is not in our City or nation's interest."
