WEINER LAYS OUT CLEAR CHOICE AT DEMOCRATIC DEBATE

ONLY CANDIDATE TO OFFER CLEAR VISION FOR MIDDLE CLASS PROGRESS

OFFERS SPECIFIC PLANS TO CUT MIDDLE CLASS TAXES, CUT WASTE FROM THE CITY BUDGET, IMPROVE OUR SCHOOLS AND EXPAND HEALTH CARE

New York City – Tonight, at the first Campaign Finance Board (CFB) debate, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Queens & Brooklyn) laid out a clear choice among the candidates vying to win the Democratic primary: a new democratic voice for New York City or more of the same.

Weiner was the only candidate at the debate to articulate a specific plan to help middle class New Yorkers prosper.

Cut Taxes on the Middle Class. As Mayor, Weiner will cut income taxes by 10%, for every New Yorker who makes $150,000 or less a year. To help pay for it, Weiner will create a new 4.67% tax bracket for New Yorkers making $1 million a year or more in income, a small increase that will generate an additional $79 million in revenue for the City.

Cut Waste Out of the City Budget to Fund Real Priorities. As Mayor, Weiner will cut or reform the 5% percent worst performing city programs every year, creating $1.7 billion in savings for the City, to fund priorities like the tax cut, better schools, and middle class housing.

Give Teachers a Pay Raise and Improve Our Schools. As Mayor, Weiner will give teachers the pay raise they deserve, cut through the red tape to give principals and teachers the authority to discipline problem students, and get back to basics in our classrooms with a curriculum that emphasizes the basic skills that our kids need to learn and succeed.

Expand Access to Affordable Health Care. As Mayor, Weiner will expand access to quality health care by my making it more affordable for small businesses to provide their employees with health insurance.

“As Democrats, we don’t deserve to win if we don’t start offering middle class New Yorkers real choices and real solutions,” Rep. Weiner said after the debate. “As Mayor, I will fight for the middle class and those aspiring to get there. My campaign is about offering New Yorkers a new democratic vision for New York City.”
